Universal Free School Meals

Every child in Reception, Year One and Year Two is entitled to have free school meals, regardless of family income or circumstances. These meals must be pre-ordered online.

At Ruskin Infant school we promote healthy eating. We offer hot meals, which are provided by Dolce.  An online meal booking system at www.livekitchen.com is used for this.  Meals can be booked  24 hours a day 7 days a week up to a term at a time.  Meals must be cancelled if your child is not at school, please note office staff will cancel a child's meal if they are not in school by 9:30am, as school are charged for all meals. Unfortunately we are unable to provide meals at short notice.  To register for meals please provide the school office with an email address and you will be contacted with log in details.

If you decide that you do not want your child to have the hot meal provided and would prefer to send your child with a packed lunch, then that is fine. It is important that these are filled with food that your child likes to eat and that they can open easily. Dont forget to include any cutlery. Dont be tempted to overfill the lunch boxes as children can be over whelmed by too much food. Packed lunches must be kept in a box with their name clearly on the outside. Please do not send hot drinks, glass bottles, fizzy drinks, cans or sweets/chocolates. The school provides guidance for parents on providing a healthy balanced lunch box.

Children are rewarded with a sticker for eating a healthy lunch and are encouraged to have no more than one treat item in their packed lunch i.e a bag of crisps or a small biscuit bar.

Each class has its own lunchtime supervisor so that relationships can be built up. In the Foundation Stage there are four lunchtime supervisors.

Cool Milk at school

We offer free milk to children under 5 on a daily basis. However, should you wish your child to continue to have milk after they turn five, this can be purchased by parents, an application form is available at the school office. This is currently priced at £18 per term for a 189ml milk per day.  Further information can be found on the Coolmilk website:  www.coolmilk.com .

The National Fruit Scheme

All children receive at least one piece of fruit each day through The National Fruit Scheme. If you do not want your child to have fruit we will ask you to complete an opt-out form. Occasionally children will receive carrots or sugar snap peas instead of a piece of fruit.
